I suppose this is something you are supposed to get used to as a nature lover, still I'm new to birding.
The pair of nesting kites on 7th Street between Cedar and Virginia and Berkeley are missing. Well, the male still appears, but no one is sitting and caring for the nest since mid-week when a group of marauding crows were attacking the nesting bird. I felt so bad I had to write this.

    Kites? Nest

Oh, where have the kites gone
    who nested in the neighbors?
    big pine and carefully
    guarded it day and night--
one traveling for food, one squat
on the hidden goods, the young?
The last I saw them together,
    they were battling
    crows, those cagey kamikazes
    divebombing the one nesting.
    Now, they have gone missing,

    except just yesterday I saw
the male raise its wide wings
to the rain cloud as if asking:
    why, why?
