I got off late from my 12 hour night shift, but went by Los Medanos College, to the pond, anyway, around 9:40 AM today (Mon. Jan 19).?I saw a female common merganzer, 3 ruddy ducks, a?pie billed grebe,?a pair of common goldeneye, possibley a greater scaup, one great egret and of coarse a lot of mallards and canadian geese.? There were ring billed gulls and 3-4 gulls a little larger with all black bills, pink legs, soft brown with white getting darker at the tail.
First years? As a begining birder (1 1/2 years) I couldn't really say.? The merganzer was at the south end of the pond away from the road. (Leland).? Also, south in the berry trees and bushes where 30 or more cedar waxwings and 15 or more robins.? Many, many yellow rumped warblers.? Other birds I could hear, but not identify.
It was a great way to end a hectic shift.
Los Medanos College is in Pittsburg, just before Antioch.?
I hope this goes through as my first message?on Christmas day did not.

?Birding is so much fun! Have a great day!
    Mona Lange, Antioch?
