On Wednesday afternoon, January 14 I observed a grebe that looked like a
Western Grebe except that part of the back of its neck was rusty. It was
close to shore roughly 150 yards east of the Nature Center. Those of you
who are more experienced than I -- perhaps every last soul reading this --
may know better, but it seemed out of the ordinary to me.

Pix of the grebe, as well as the Tufted Duck, which was close to the feeding
area by the Nature Center, are at
    http://picasaweb.google.com/alpix123/LakeMerritt01142009.

Sorry about the late post. My original post -- my first ever post to EBB --
was rejected and it took me awhile to figure out that it was because it was
    rich text format.
