[EBB Sightings] Ohlone Audubon Coyote Hills field trip report

On Thursday, 1/15, about eleven birders joined Mona Brauer and I for Ohlone Audubon's field trip to Coyote Hills Regional Park. The morning was brisk and sunny, and we enjoyed seeing more than 60 species. Highlights were a Eurasian wigeon on North Marsh, a merlin perched first by the entry kiosk and then in a tree by Quarry parking lot, a northern rough-winged swallow above Quarry, many tree swallows flying around the tree swallow boxes along the Dust Trail, and a blue-winged teal off the Chochenyo Trail.  Mona and I had scouted the area on Tuesday, 1/13, and found five Wilson's snipe feeding in the slough at the junction of the Chochenyo and Dust Trails, but they were not seen on Thursday. In the oaks by the hummingbird garden, we came across Bob Dunn looking for - and finding -  varied thrush.  Thanks to his heads-up on the way out, a couple of us went back and saw it. Even me. Under the same oaks, we found a hermit thrush, and in the branches
 overhead, a Hutton's vireo.  A list of all species seen follows.
