    Dear Birders:

I regularly encounter California Thrashers in Strawberry Canyon in Berkeley. Best place is what I call the 'wild corner' at the UC Botanical Garden. Walk uphill to the southeast corner beyond the rose garden and then start walking down the steep slope next to the fence line. I almost always hear one singing. Spotting the singer is harder because of the dense vegetation.

The Garden is a wonderful place to bird because of the variety of habitats including Strawberry Creek itself. The western end of the 33-acre garden is devoted to native plants of California.

A recently-updated bird list for the garden is now available.
