Though I spent a couple of hours looking and listening for the Cal. Thrashers that Bob Battigan found the other day, I couldn't find a trace of them today. ?Because I live just behind the cemetery, I'll keep looking and hope that they're there for a while.

Just a note of caution about the fences. As Alan Howe suggested, there used to be many ways to access the back, or north and east side, though breaks in the fence. I used to love to pop though the fence above my garden and walk up for a wonderful view of the Bay. In the last year, though, the cemetery has completely sealed the fence and put up stern warning about not entering that way. A new hole appeared a few months back and was quickly fixed by the next day. ?As Bob suggested, enter though the gate at the east end of Piedmont Avenue and wind your way to the top-lovely views of Victorian burial tradition, the bay, and famous and not-so-famous old Oakland family names will entertain you on your way up.
