This morning (Sat. Jan. 4) my wife Adele and I saw 10 Mountain Bluebirds between mileposts 4.8 and 6.9 on Patterson Pass Road east of Livermore. Some were on telephone wires, some on fence wires, some on the ground, and some just flying. Vern Bothwell also saw 10 Mountain Bluebirds in the same area Friday morning (Jan. 3).

We also saw a small flock of American Pipits in the field south of the gate at milepost 5.9.

I would like to clear up a possible misunderstanding regarding a quote some might erroneously attribute to me.
A recent posting to EBB by Len Blumin, about the Northern Waterthrush at Berkeley Aquatic Park, read, in part:

    > Greetings EastBayBirders -.
    > I nominate Art Edward for the 2008 Understatement of the Year award, when he wrote:
    > "Let's just say this spot hasn't become any more family oriented as time has gone by,
    > even with cold temperatures and light rain. Fortunately the waterthrush called
    > loudly for about a minute and I managed a few quick glimpses before deciding enough
    > was enough."
    > ...
    > Respectfully, Len Blumin

I don't know who Art Edward is, but he is not me, and I did not make the statement quoted above.
