This morning (Sat, Jan. 3), we kicked off our new birding year with a
walk from Shimada Friendship Park in Richmond down to Meeker
Slough. The low tide brought in a nice selection of shorebirds on
the mudflats about halfway along that trail, including 2 Black
Oystercatchers and 1 RUDDY TURNSTONE with a flock of Black Turnstones.

Four Cedar Waxwings were in the pine trees in the area of the low
    berry bushes near the trail.

A flock of Canada Geese east of the slough included one CACKLING GOOSE.

From Vincent Park just up the street, 2 more Black Oystercatchers
were scoped near Brooks Island. They're fairly common in this area
now. An Orange-Crowned and a Townsend's Warbler were nice surprises
    for this manicured park.

    Good birding,
