Finally, a Mines Road Roadrunner for me too. After missing it by minutes yesterday, I went back and parked along Mines Road about Milepost 9.38 prepared to picnic all day if necessary. Forunately the Roadrunner presented itself after 15 minutes in the same area as describe by Pat yesterday. Look down the road on the uphill side to an Oak tree with a rocky, sage brush area below it. The roadrunner first appearred under the tree and I watched it for about 15 minutes as it hunted among the top edge of the rocks and brush. This is my final species for the Alameda County big year contest. I ended with 267 species for the year. It was fun but I'm glad it's over. I leave Sunday for southeast Arizona. They have Rufous-capped Warblers there!
