    Hi, all.
I was down at Berkeley's Cesar Chavez Park at sunset last night--a gorgeous one, I must say. Given the light conditions, most of what I saw falls in Edward Abbey's scientific classification of "LGB"--little gray birds. (Well, many were brown....the only ones I could be sure of were white-crowned sparrows.)
I was surprised, however, to find a hermit thrush come hopping up the upper trail in the area of trees just north of the parking loop and kite lawn. I've never seen one out there before--is this unusual?
As I was leaving and most light had drained from the sky, I talked to a fellow returning to his car--parked near the road at the northwest end of the Meadow--and mentioned the burrowing owl sitings. As he left, I turned around, looked down along the dark shore of the lagoon, and there was one of the owls staring back at me! As I raised my binocs, s/he flew off toward the north, back, I assume, to the northeastern corner of the park where they have often been found.
    Cheers,
