Mid-afternoon today I found a Lewis's woodpecker that was reported on CalBirds a few days ago at the "clock tower" house up the hill from the junction of Mines Road and Del Valle Road in Livermore. The bird was on a pole down the hill from the house.

    >From the bushes on the east side of the road just 1/10 mile south of the same junction, where "STOP" (as in "STOP AHEAD") is painted on the road, a phainopepla responded to pishing. The bird calmly perched for awhile, then flew down to drink from a puddle by the roadside before disappearing into the underbrush.

A flock of 24 wild turkeys fed down the hillside behind the trees a bit farther southeast of the junction.

Just after MM 9.0 two golden eagles circled directly above the road, calling and interacting with each other. Just before MM 10.0 a third golden eagle wheeled overhead on its own.
