Today, Sunday, 10/12, a California Thrasher hopped into my backyard from the brush nearby. Wow, what a great beak it has! Landing on the ground, it threw around leaf litter for about 2 minutes and then disappeared back into the brush. While we were discussing the wonderful beak of the Thrasher, the local Northern Flicker landed close by on a tree trunk and eyeballed our feeders. Finding nothing of great interest it flew off toward some neighboring trees and then also disappeared. So glad I happened to be looking out the window--Wow, two great beaks in one day!
