    Hi all,
    
    Pasted below are Lewis's Woodpecker records from Contra Costa County from the fall of 2003. It is unclear if these numbers would be typical if somebody spent as much time up there as I did that fall or if this was unusual. Also note that some of these birds were noted flying north.
    
    Traditionally this species has been easiest (but not easy!) to find in winter around the eastern flank of Mt. Diablo, particularly around Round Valley Regional Park and Los Vaqueros Reservoir. 
    
    Despite seemingly suitable habitat, Lewis's Woodpeckers have never been confirmed breeding in Contra Costa County.
