    Hi birders,

Did a bit of birding on my lunch hour today at/near the SF Bay NWR in
Newark. Best birds were at least 11 LESSER YELLOWLEGS in a pond next to Thornton
    Rd.

To get to the spot where I saw the birds, exit Hwy 84 at Thornton/Paseo
Padre and go south on Thornton. Continue past the entrance to the refuge. Just
after the road curves left (east), look for the ponds on your left. There is
no safe parking on the right shoulder here, so I would suggest continuing on
to find a place to turn around and then head back west. There is a wide
gravel shoulder on the north side of road right next to the ponds. In the close
pond, there is a collapsed structure of concrete/wood/rusty pipes. Just
behind that are more ponds with some islands and exposed mud. The LEYEs were
there, with many Greater Yellowlegs, Dowitchers, Bl-necked Stilts, Mallards, a
few peeps, and one Spotted Sandpiper. Most of the birds were just roosting
rather than feeding. I was there about 1 pm, which was roughly two hours
after today's high tide. Don't know if they would remain in this area when the
    tides are different.

This area is part of the refuge, but there is no access, so you need to
    scope from the road.

    Good birding,
