    Hi Birders-

I walked out about a half mile max from the interpretive center at Hayward
RS this morning hoping to find the Baird's Sandpiper. All the near mudflats
were devoid of small birds. Farther out were Black-bellied and Semipalmated
Plovers and peeps. Not expecting the Bairds to be any closer to the bay I
headed back. At about a quarter mile from the center I checked the mudflat
one more time. There, all by itself about a hundred yards out, was the
Baird's Sandpiper. This was at 11:40 am. I think the high tide was still
pushing into the marsh. There is an orange-capped pipe (the second from the
center, I think) along the trail where I made the sighting. Earlier, from
Mission Blvd, I walked both sides of Alameda Creek in Fremont to the gravel
bar without seeing the Little Blue Heron.
