Hi Birders-
I walked from the interpretive center at Hayward Shoreline to the bay this
afternoon in search of alcids. Around 3pm I ran into Kathy Robertson at the
bay where she had seen a murre an hour before. I saw no murres on the bay,
but I had a hunch and continued along the trail a short distance. On the
last big curve in the trail before it reaches the long bridge I found a
Common Murre in the marsh. It was swimming in the channel that parallels the
trail and was moving away from the bridge. It eventually disappeared into
the march. It looked like a healthy adult. No other alcids were seen.
Several Lesser Yellowlegs and Least Terns were seen in flight. A Clark's
Grebe was on the bay.
Dave Weber,
Milpitas
