    Hi all:

Bob Richmond had a Rhinocerous Auklet (well, 2
actually) yesterday afternoon north of the San Mateo
Bridge seen from Johnson's Landing more or less. John
Luther was able to see the birds at about 3:30 (NorCal
    rare bird hotline).

I went out early this morning, but the tide was hecka
out (official tide language) and I had nice views of
tires. There were 300+ Wilson's Phalaropes in Frank's
Dump, so there's always something to getting out and
getting going. The Phalaropes saw my thought-bubble
("photo-op!") and didn't even let me reach for my
scope before they up and skidaddled. There were
abundant backlit Phalaropes in the Hayward ponds on my
way back to the Env Interp Center, so that may be
where the Frank's Dump birds ended up.

For those participating in the Alameda County Big
Year, it's that time again. If you have an updated
total, please send to me and Bob at wingbeats.org.

    Good birding,
