    Hi all:

At Frank's Dump this morning there were 9 Wilson's
Phalaropes with a growing number of peeps and
Dowitchers. One peep got my attention as it stood a
head taller than the rest with a short black bill and
black legs. I got excited by the prospects of
Semi-palmated Sandpiper or Baird's Sandpiper but
slowly rejected both on the basis of size, primary
projection, etc. Ohhhhh! Sanderling. In breeding
plumage w/ a little molt. Haven't seen one of those
    since April 2007.

With a Ruff seen in Davis yesterday and Alviso this
a.m. (fide Sonny Mencher / Al DeMartini; not posted
yet) let's not be shy about scanning those mudflats
    and marshes. We're due.

    Good birding,

To reach Frank's Dump - from the end of West Winton
Ave. in Hayward, take the trail out to the bay. At
the Bay Trail head north to the first pond north of
the radio towers. Approximately 1 mile or 20 minutes
if you don't look at anything on the way.
