[EBB Sightings] red crossbill

On Las Trampas Road in Lafayette, 100 yards north of
the intersection at Glenside, I found a juvenile
(probably female)red crossbill panting in distress in
the middle of the road.  After reviving it with water
and cooling, I returned it to the wooded area nearby,
where we could hear lots of peeping, presumably from
the nest.  I have never seen this species in my
over-20 years living here.  Has anyone else?
