The Chickadees which nested in our Walnut Creek patio bird house did not
make much of a presence yesterday, but my wife Rosita said the adults came
to the patio occasionally this morning.

After I returned from a long day of birding Mitchell Canyon and Pine Canyon,
the latter accompanied by Rosita, we saw a Chickadee at the seed feeder,
picking a small peanut chip out of the mix. What a surprise, it was one of
the kids, some streaks on its breast and a shaggy-looking tail. It held the
peanut chip in its feet against the perch, chipped away at it and then flew
off over the garage roof. How did it learn how to do that so fast? I don't
remember teaching them that one, but it is nice to know the kids remember to
come back to Mom and Dad's house for a good meal. The life of empty
    nesters!
