On the Ebparks.org Hayward Reg. Shoreline maps, this
is the southeast corner of Hayward Marsh,
approximately on the map where the words "to Hayward"
and "to San Mateo" are sandwiched together. The birds
were not in the western ponds where Bob Richmond had
them earlier in the day. These are difficult ponds to
look at in the morning if you go out for a close
vantage point, as you're looking towards the sun. Bob
Dunn had the best vantage point for a morning Tern
watch, from the viewing platform, with the sun over
your right shoulder. A scope is a necessity. The first
3/8 of a mile along the trail should be decent viewing
as well. Two pair of Least Terns were out on their
nesting island along with a Snowy Plover. The Terns in
the back ponds were swarming though and stole the
show. I couldn't get a decent count of the Black Terns
because of distance and constant diving and mixing
with Forster's Terns. My best count was 15, but there
were likely as many as Peter had seen earlier in the
    day.

    Good birding,
