[EBB Sightings] Pileated Woodpecker calling near Rheem Theatre in Moraga

Hi E. B. Birders,

This morning, while working at home on my computer, I
heard the loud, resonant calling of a Pileated
Woodpecker.?The glass doors to my deck were closed,
but the call was loud enough to get my attention. ?
About an hour later around 11:00 am, I heard it
calling several times.  This time I was on my deck,
and could tell that the vocalizations were coming from
the redwoods and pines directly across the ravine,
above the open space behind the Rheem Theatre.? 

Interestingly, this would have been about the same
time Don Lewis saw one at Valle Vista. 

This area is only 3 miles from Valle Vista, not that
far for a bird to travel, but this was the first time
I have heard one from my apartment.  I would advise
birders who live and travel along Moraga Road to keep
an eye out for Pileated Woodpeckers on the move.
