Bethel Island was excellent this morning. I birded 700-1030. In addition to the roadside riparian tangle by the green gate, the most productive part was a slow walk along the levee west from the the northern end of Bethel Island Rd. I went right thru the gate not seeing any trespassing signs and seeing a local resident walking his dog. Once past the gate,I descended the interior slope of the levee to follow a distinct track along the fenceline for more than a half mile (i hope this was ok) which allowed easy viewing of riparian as well as more open habitat. I did not hear or see a Chat. Highlights for me:
      BLUE GROSBEAK-2
      BLACK-CHINNED HUMMERS-2
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER-1 on the tallest dead snag maybe 200 hundred yards from gate
      ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER-1
also Western Kingbirds and B. Phoebes
      WESTERN TANAGER-3
YELLOW WARBLER-at least 10 seen and heard
      several C. Yellowtrhroats
      TOWNEND'S WARBLER-1
      WARBLING VIREO-5+
      CALIFORNIA THRASHER-1
      also California Qual-1, House Wren-1, Bewicks Wren-2, 1 Downy and 1 Nuttall's Woodpexker
      SWAINSON"S HAWK-3 (2 over Oakley)
      AMERICAN BITTERN-1 flyover
GREEN HERON-3 (one on Jersey Island Rd)
also flyover Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, B-c Night-Heron, White Pelican, DC Cormaorant
      plus the other expected usuals
very nice migration action still going on!
