    Hi all:

I got out early today. And home early. One target:
Pigeon Guillemot. Social obligations eliminate high
tide birding for the next 5 days, so this was my one
    shot.

For those who are interested in big year birding,
w/out having to experience the highs and lows
personally, here's how this weekend went:
Friday: San Leandro Marina -- Scanned the airport bay
where the Guillemot was reported from Saturday.
Saturday: Went to Berkeley for Guillemot hunting....
Guillemot spotted in San Leandro by Bob Richmond.
Sunday: Went to San Leandro via Oyster Pt. shoreline
just north of San Leandro Marina. On the way out to a
270 degree bay view, I saw Kites up ahead and was
hopeful to find a nest. Instead, I was delighted to
see two juveniles. My first juvenile raptors born this
    spring.
    No Guillemot.

So that's the bonus of big year birding; you go to a
park that you haven't been to in years, in search of
something you don't find, and instead you're delighted
by something you do find that's completely
    unexpected.* Nice.

A couple of photos of the Kites can be seen at:

    Good birding,
