The following was seen today -

Red-breased Merganser - 1, seen offshore of the south end of Tony Lema Golf Course. I have no May records for this area. The latest at the shoreline was 4-27-84.

Red Knot - 4, 2 at Johnson's Landing and 2 at the mouth of San Lorenzo Creek. All were in winter plumage and will probably summer in the area.

Dunlin 2, 1 in breeding plumage in Hayward Marsh and 1 in winter plumage at the mouth of San Lorenzo Creek.

Whimbrel - only 1 seen at Johnson's Landing. I did not see the 7 seen yesterday. The most I have seen in spring is 9 on 4-24-99. Still 7 seen is unusual.

Black Skimmer - 4 in Hayward Marsh, 2 pairs. Best area to see them from is the southeast corner of the trail in Cogswell Marsh.

Pigeon Guillemot - 1 seen on the bat from San Leandro Marina. It was seen near the airport at high tide (not seen at low tide) from the end of Mulford Point Road (I think this is the correct name).

Western-wood Pewee - 2 seen at Winton Ave. 2 were seen together at 6:45 PM. I saw them 7 times last spring, but only twice this spring.

Western Tanager - 1 at the Grant Ave. parking lot.

    Good birding
