    Greetings Birders:

Chris Carmichael, Associate Director at the UC Botanical Gardens
reports the arrival of a pair of Hooded Orioles. They have been
feeding on the colorful flowers on the South African hill (though if
they are intending to stay and breed, their destination will probably
be the Palm Garden). Chris says they are vocalizing, though not yet
singing. He says that it's usually well into April before they start
    nesting in the Garden.

The Garden, at the upper end of Strawberry Canyon, with its year-round
stream and the variety of vegetation including a large native plant
section,is a true Eden for bird watchers. I particularly love the top
southeast area which I think of as the 'wild corner.' Its a good place
to listen for singing California Thrashers and other birds of the 'soft
    chaparral.'
