    Today, Vern Bothwell and I birded around Livermore, at Springtown, Laughlin Road,
    Los Vaqueros Watershed, and S. Greenville Road, seeing the following 76 species:
    
    Cackling Goose, Canada Goose, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Mallard, Cinnamon Teal,
    Ring-necked Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Ruddy Duck,
    Ring-necked Pheasant, Wild Turkey, Pied-billed Grebe, Eared Grebe,
    Western Grebe, Clark�s Grebe, American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant,
    Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, Turkey Vulture, Northern Harrier,
    Red-tailed Hawk, Ferruginous Hawk, Golden Eagle, American Kestrel,
    Virginia Rail, Sora, American Coot, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt,
    American Avocet, Greater Yellowlegs, Long-billed Curlew, Short-billed Dowitcher,
    Wilson�s Snipe, Ring-billed Gull, California Gull, Glaucous-winged Gull,
    Thayer's Gull, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Anna�s Hummingbird, Black Phoebe,
    Say's Phoebe, Cassin's Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike, Western Scrub-Jay,
    Yellow-billed Magpie, American Crow, Common Raven, Tree Swallow, Bushtit,
    Marsh Wren, Western Bluebird, Hermit Thrush, American Robin,
    Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, Cedar Waxwing, Phainopepla,
    Yellow-rumped Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Savannah Sparrow, Song Sparrow,
    Lincoln�s Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow,
    Red-winged Blackbird, Western Meadowlark, Brewer�s Blackbird,
    Brown-headed Cowbird, House Finch, Lesser Goldfinch, House Sparrow,
    
    Locations of some of the best birds were"
    
    Cackling goose, 1 at the Springtown Golf Course, seen from Golf Street;
    
    American White Pelican, 4 on Los Vaqueros Watershed (enter free, stay as
    long as you like if you do not park anywhere);
    
    Virginia Rail, 1 heard, 1 seen in creek downstream of Springtown Blvd.
    
    Sora, 1 in creek downstream of Springtown Blvd.
    
    Long-billed Curlew, ~40 on Dagnino Road and on Hartford Road;
    
    Glaucous-winged Gull, several in Frick Lake on Laughlin Road,
    with about 2000 California Gulls.  The gulls are not there on
    Sundays, when the Altamont dump is closed.
    
    Thayers Gull, several in Frick Lake on Laughlin Road, with about
    2000 California Gulls.  The gulls are not there on Sundays,
    when the Altamont dump is closed.
    
    Cassin's Kingbird, 1 at the s. end of S. Greenville Road,
    next to the last big pond (one was also at the Tracy Golf Course,
    near the I-5, Hwy 32 intersection last Saturday, Feb.9);
    
    Marsh Wren, 2 in the Creek downstream of Springtown Blvd;
    
    Cedar Waxwing, ~12 next to the Creek downstream of Springtown Blvd
    (my first in months);
    
    Phainopepla, 2 males on the southern entrance road to Los Vaqueros
    Watershed, at mileposts 0.9 and 2.2.
