This bird has hung around for another week. He(?) seems to have thrown in
with the herd of White-Crowns that inhabit the shrubs and trees on the north
side of the house. Tuesday evening he was spotted foraging on the back lawn
with the White Crown pack. Got chased by an adult but then came back and
chased a juvenile before moving up to a feeder. He starts feeding early,
usually at the back yard feeders, showing up at earliest light. The bird
seemed to have spent more time in the back yard this past week; there's more
cover there, perhaps offering protection from Merlins and Cooper's Hawks are
know to patrol the front yard. (As I write this, I can see him in the front
    yard feeder tree.)
