Thursday morning, I went looking for the Rock Wren that
was previously reported at Coyote Hills. At 10 a.m., there
was no sign of the bird but a couple of groups of people
with young children were playing amid the outcroppings.
After 20 minutes, the people left and the wren immediately
appeared. It was in the same general area previously
reported. Park in the old quarry lot. Take the trail
by the entrance to the parking lot up to the top of the
hill, where the quartzite outcropping are encrusted with
deep yellow lichen. The Wren was moving around quite a bit
among the rocks over an area of about 100 yards.
