While standing on my Montclair deck this afternoon listening to a
wonderful symphony of mixed bird songs, I was startled to hear a
black-headed grosbeak. It was the familiar sound of a robin on
speed. At first I did not believe what I was hearing but heard it
many times again during the afternoon. For my yard, this is almost
one month early. If they are true to past years, it will be a few
days to a week before I actually see any at my feeders. Can't wait!
Also was treated to a large mixed flock of robins and cedar waxwings
crisscrossing the sky. They were everywhere! Had a black phoebe and
a few band-tailed pigeons to round out my exhilarating, spring-like
    afternoon.
