This morning I took my Ornithology class on our annual outing to Lake
Merritt in Oakland. We added two new species to our cumulative list. A
CACKLING GOOSE was very cooperative at the concrete ponds adjacent to the
Rotary Science Center. It flew over our group several times calling.

Across the street were two WILD TURKEYS who are believed to be offspring of
the birds which nested in the Oakland Rose Garden last year. According to
the naturalist, their names are Thelma and Louise.

Other birds of interest included an adult male TUFTED DUCK and a female
REDHEAD at the duck feeding area and a first cycle THAYER'S GULL.
