    Hi birders,

I headed out to Patterson Pass Rd. in Livermore late this morning, where I
was able to relocate the Mountain Bluebirds previously reported by Bruce Mast.
Just west of MM 5.90, I parked in the large, paved pullout on the south
side of the road with the wood fence and two green metal gates. The birds were
in the fields south of the pullout.

Before heading out for the Mt. Bluebirds, I was in the lucky group of
birders who saw the Yellow Rail at Arrowhead this morning. And about 2:30 this
afternoon I was back in Oakland, and at 3:30 I relocated the Long-tailed Duck
in the northeastern arm of Lake Merritt. I agree with Bruce's assessment that
this bird is an immature male. The female Redhead and the male Tufted Duck
were both seen near the nature center.

All in all, a fabulous birding day,
