I spent today birding eastern Contra Costa county. Some highlights:

-Twenty White Pelicans at Holland Tract in addition to the usual flock of
    Sandhill Cranes.
-A Ferruginous Hawk sitting on a telephone pole at the junction of Byron
    Highway and Orwood Road.
-A flock of thirty Tundra Swans flying over Orwood Road.
-A large raft of Canvasbacks on Clifton Court Forebay, and another group
    of White Pelicans soaring overhead.
-Numerous Loggerhead Shrikes, one just east of Knightsen on Delta Road and
two more on Holey Road near the Byron airport.
-Rock Wren in the north parking lot at Black Diamond Mines.

The last is new for Denise's Contra Costa big year project.

I was thinking about spending high tide tomorrow at Meeker Slough trying
to find a clapper, but I could easily be convinced to cross the county
    line into Alameda instead...

    Good birding,
