    Hi E.B Birders,

Like Rusty in Alameda Co., we also had an Allen's
Hummingbird this morning, but over the hill in Contra
Costa Co. The bird was seen out on the Wildcat Creek
Trail, about a quarter mile north of Jewel Lake in
Tilden. Many of us heard the wing whir, then watched
as he did his back and fourth display. The morning
walk, starting at the parking lot of the Nature Area,
produced 49 species, seen and/or heard, including
Green Heron, Ring-neck Duck, the female Hooded
Merganzer, 5 Common Mergansers, Buffleheads, and a
    female Common Goldeneye.

After class I went to Briones Reg. Park, Bear Creek
entrance. I saw a flock of 6 Varied Thrush, on the
south side of a creek trail that leads from Homestead
Valley back to the parking lot. I was somewhat lost
on a deer trail behind the southwest parking lot at
the time. I don't recommend it, as I had to thrash
    through lots of poison oak!

    All the Best Birding,
