I can't add anything to the already-impressive year list for Contra
Costa County, but we had several nice birds at this morning's high-
tide census at Pt. Pinole Regional Shoreline (part of the year-long N.
Richmond shoreline census): one Eu. Wigeon, one each Com. and Red-
throated Loon, at least three Pelagic Cormorants, and two handsome
male Red-breasted Merganers. The Wigeon was missed on the rainy
censuses of Jan 3 and Jan 5, but was seen at least a couple of times
in Nov and/or Dec (I can't remember the dates). It hangs out in the
coves west of the intersection of the Bay View and Cook's Point trails.
