I went over to Coyote Hills RP in Fremont between 5:00
and 5:30 tonight in hopes of seeing a great-horned
owl. As the light truly faded, I heard two GHOs
calling back and forth above the Visitor Center, so I
hiked up the trail to Hoot Hollow, at which point they
promptly stopped, and I didn't see either one.

On the other hand, as I drove past the Quarry staging
area on my way into the park, I (finally) found one
COMMON MOORHEN in the water directly behind the
"Alameda Creek Ponding Area" sign. I had the bird for
maybe 3 minutes before it scooted into the reeds, not
    to be seen again.

Around 3:30 this afternoon, I visited Pleasanton Ridge
RP just outside Sunol (Castlewood exit west, then
south on Foothill Blvd. for 2 miles). The sun sets
behind the hills right about the time I arrived, but
just before it went, I picked up OAK TITMOUSE,
    CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, STELLER'S JAY, ACORN
WOODPECKER, NUTTALL'S WOODPECKER, and a couple of
    loudly calling RED-SHOULDERED HAWKs.
