    Hello Birders,
At lunch today, I saw a lone yellow-billed magpie in the picnic area at the marina end of the Martinez Regional Shoreline.

Besides this striking bird, there were 4 species of gulls (swarming a couple of people feeding several loaves of bread to them) accompanied by hundreds of pigeons. Mallards were copulating. Coots were wandering. The blackbirds (2 species) and starlings were putting up an enormous racket. Canada geese were honking. A single canvasback male swam by. Avocets and stilts were busy in the shallow edges of the pond. I didn't go over to the marsh.

    Good lunchtime birding,
    Anne Hoff
