I took a casual stroll down to Lake Merritt this morning and found several
locally rare ducks. Right off the bat, at the Embarcadero fountain, among a
flock of about 30 loafing scaups mostly Greater), I noticed the Tufted Duck
and the Ring-necked Duck (both males).

An hour later, coming back by the duck feeding area at the Rotary Nature
Center, the flock of panhandling ducks included the recurring female
Redhead, along with the 2 scaup species and Canvasbacks.

In other news, A Redbreasted Sapsucker has been working the exotic gray
conifer next to the Garden Center for some time now and he was back at it
again this morning. No luck on anything waterthrus-like.
