Today, December 19, 2008, at around 1:00 PM, I saw one Pileated Woodpecker in
Redwood Regional Park above West Ridge Trail near the French Trail. To reach
this location I actually walked down the fire trail from Wilton Drive and
Burton almost down to West Ridge Trail. When I saw the woodpecker, it was on a
dead tree between the fire trail and West Ridge Trail. It was pecking in a
large hole. It flew around the area and perched in nearby trees. It called
    once.

Later on, at approximately 2:30 PM, I went back to take pictures and it was
back at the same dead tree. I got some good pictures. This location is close
to the same place where I videotaped a Pileated Woodpecker two years at about
this time of year. It is about halfway between Skyline Gate and Moongate.
