This morning (Sun, Dec 16), at San Pablo Bay Regional Shoreline in
Pinole, 7 species of shorebirds included 2 SURFBIRDS on the rocks
    just south of Pt Wilson.

We also had a Mew Gull flyby. This species used to be common in this
area as a flock used to winter at the Pinole water treatment plant,
but I have seen them only rarely in recent years.

Directions to San Pablo Bay Regional Shoreline: Exit I-80 at Appian
Way in Pinole and head north toward the Bay. At the bottom of the
hill, take a left on San Pablo Ave. At the 2nd light, turn right on
Pinole Shores Drive. At the end of Pinole Shores Drive is a small
gravel parking lot for the Regional Shoreline.

For Pt Wilson: From the parking lot, take the paved trail to the
left (west). After a short distance, a dirt trail vears off to the
right through a break in the fence and across the railroad tracks to
Pt Wilson (the little peninsula). The shorebirds hang out on the
    rocks in this area.

    Good birding,
