    There were more than 3000 water birds at Lake Merritt this morning
    (7:30-8:30 am).
    
    I only saw two obviously oiled birds (a badly oiled Western Grebe and a
    Western Gull with some brown splotches). The Gull seemed to be holding it
    own in a bread fight, but the Western Grebe was clearly struggling.
    
    The Tufted Duck was associating with a dozen Canvasback Ducks near the
    colonnade. I've seen the Tufted Duck in that general location almost every
    day for the past week.
