    Today at the shoreline

Wandering Tattler - 2 at San Leandro Marina.

Baird's Sandpiper - 3 with the Buff-brested Sandpiper that Steve found.
Before this year the latest Baird's Sandpiper I had seen at the
       shoreline was 9-12.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper - 1 found by Steve Glover in the sludge pond
just south of Ora Loma Sewage Treatment Plant. The easiest way to
get here is from Grant Ave. From the EBRPD parking area near the
end of Grant, take the paved trail north a short way to San Lorenzo
Creek, then west to the bay. The trail then turns to gravel and
turns to the south. A pond is between San Lorenzo Creek and Ora
Loma Sewage Treatment Plant, Bochman Channel is south of Ora Loma
and the sludge pond is just south of there. Don't forget to check
       the first pond.

Black Tern - 1 in the city of Hayward Ponds. From Winton Ave., turn
towards Cogswell Marsh. The first pond on your left is the pond
where the tern was. It may be the same bird that Peter and Shiela
saw at Hayward's Landing that morning. This is the first Sept.
record I have for the shoreline. The latest of 4 Aug. records is
       8-19-95.

Willow Flycatcher - 1 near Winton Ave.

Empid sp. - 1 near Winton Ave. Possible Hammond's Flycatcher.

Say's Phoebe - 1 at Ora Loma Sewage Treatment Plant is the first I
have seen this fall. Bob Dunn probably saw the first at the
shoreline this fall about 1 week ago.

    Swainson's Thrush - 2 near Winton Ave.

    Warblers
Orange-crowned - 12, including 3 of the race celata (gray headed)
       Yellow - 24
       Yellow-rumped - 4
       Common Yellowthroat - 6
       Wilson's - 2

Western Tanager - 2 near Winton Ave.

Clay-colored Sparrow - 1 behind the trees at Winton Ave. It was part
of a flock of White-crowned Sparrows.

    Bullock's Oriole - 1 at Winton Ave.

    Good Birding

    Bob
