At the very end of Albany Bulb is a rocky breakwater that encloses a kind of
lagoon. This has become an excellent place to see rocky shorebirds in
impressive numbers and at close range. This morning I saw at least fourteen
Black oystercatchers and forty or more Black turnstones. When the birds
are not on this breakwater they often can be found instead on the rocks and
riprap west of the Golden Gate Fields parking lot, south of Albany Beach.
