    Although body size usually is correlated with the frequency of bird
    vocalizations, with larger birds making lower-pitched sounds, that is
    not the case with owls.  Instead, the larger-bodied female utters a
    higher-frequency sound because she has a smaller vocal apparatus
    (syrinx and bronchi) than the male does.
