Following up on Dave Quady's earlier message, the Black Skimmers continue by the dilapidated pier just south of Meeker Slough on the Richmond Bay Trail. Two birds were present yesterday late afternoon at about 4:30 p.m. (Friday 7/27) resting on a mud bank. Also seen in the marsh just south of the Richmond Field Station were about 10 semi-palmated plovers. Seen along with two other birders, a Clapper Rail gave a good show in Meeker Slough about fifty yards east of the bridge on the far bank, in a a two foot wide private cove, where it preened and sunned itself. The tide was pretty high at the time and it was very windy along the trail.
