On Friday, June 8, I saw at least 6 Burrowing Owls in Brentwood. They are in
the vacant field across from Mcdonald's, at the intersection of Brentwood
Blvd.(Highway 4) and Sand Creek Road. They were spread out among 4 differnt
burrows, just 20 feet from the edge of the sidewalk. Sometimes they perch on the
"Private Property" signs. What a treat!

This afternoon, Saturday 6/9 4:00 PM, I saw and
photographed a single Burrowing Owl near Walmart on
Lone Tree Way, Antioch. I remember another member
posting this location for Burrowing Owls last year but
I have not seen the owls recently.
Walmart is at the intersection of Lone Tree Way and
Hillcrest Ave both intersect Highway 4. The actual
site is the vacant lot between Walmart and OSH
(Orchard Supply Hardware). If one were to extend a
line between the front door of Walmart and the front
door of OSH, the owl was standing roughly on that line
in the center of the vacant lot.
To me this seems to be a terrible spot for any bird to
nest. The lot seems barren, right next to a very busy
parking lot, and people walk through the vacant lot.
I saw a group of people walk within 20 feet of the
owl, it hid, and then returned to its "perch" on the
ground. They did not see it. I assume the owls know
    what they like best.
    Good birding,
