[EBB Sightings] Great Blue Heron's lunch menu

At Arrowhead near the Oakland Airport on Sunday we saw a Great Blue 
Heron repeatedly go to the same spot in the tall grass near the foot of 
the pier and emerge with his mouth full of what looked like a baby 
ground squirrel, or perhaps a mouse.  The heron worked his mouth over 
and over, which resulted in killing his prey.  Then he took a short 
flight over to the edge of the water where he briefly dunked his meal 
then swallowed it whole.  We watched him return to the same place in 
the tall grass and repeat the process three times.  I've always seen 
Great Blue Herons lunching on small fish but never on squirrels.  Bon 
appetite.
