Today (5/27) at the Hayward Shoreline -

    Whimbrel - 1 at Frank's Dump West.

Red Knot - 2 at Frank's Dump West, in winter plumage.

Ruddy Turnstone - 3 at Frank's Dump West.

Red Phalarope - 4, 3 at Frank's Dump West and 1 in Hayward Marsh. Hayward Marsh has no public access but the phalarope was in a pond right next to the trail. To get to Hayward Marsh, take the trail out to the bay from the Interpretive Center. Go North a short distance where a chain-link fence is on the east side of the trail and the bay is on the west side. All 4 phalaropes were between winter plumage and breeding plumage. This is also the first I have seen in late spring since 1998.

Wilson's Phalarope - 1 at Frank's Dump West on 5/24 was not seen today.

Western-Wood Pewee - 1 on the east side of Ora Loma Marsh. I only have later spring records in 1991 and 1995.

Ash-throated Flycatcher - 2 on the east side of Ora Loma Marsh. I only have a later spring record in 1998.

Western Kingbird - 1 on the Radio Tower Hills. I only have later spring records in 1985 and 1999.

Yellow Warbler - 2 seen in the Winton Ave parking area. I only have later spring records in 1995 and 2006.

Western Tanager - 1 seen on the east side of Ora Loma Marsh. This is the latest spring record I have for the shoreline.

Black-headed Grosbeak - 1 seen a Frank's East Trees. This is the latest spring record I have for the shoreline.

Hooded Oriole - 2 seen in Frank's East Trees (male and female) are probably nesting.

    Good birding

    Bob
