Thanks to the invitation from (the very capable) EBMUD's Wildlife Biologist Roger Hartwell, my Merritt College class was lucky to see various raptors near San Pablo Reservoir today, 3/3/07:

    - BALD EAGLE (1) (adult)

    - GOLDEN EAGLE (1) (adult)

    - COOPER's HAWK (1) (adult)

Other more "common" raptors worth mentioning:

    - RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (1) (adult)

    - WHITE-TAILED KIT (2) (adult)

    - NORTHERN HARRIER (4)

    - AMERICAN KESTREL (3) (2 female and 1 male)

The rookery near the Dam's/Reservoir's headquarter parking lot (300' north of the main door/visitor center) at 500 San Pablo Dam Rd. is impressive, as at least 30 GREAT BLUE HERONS were present -- a # that became obvious when a huge eucalyptus branch fell with a thunder clap that dispersed ALL of the perching heron individuals temporarily. (See I told you one more stick would make the nest too heavy!).......:-)
