For the last several years, we've had a flock of Band-tailed Pigeons
regularly visiting our feeders and oaks. This afternoon, one of the
group's chest was almost maroon in color and was much darker overall
than the rest of the flock. This is the first I've seen of this
bird, and tried to get a photo, but it spooked quickly. It did have
the white crescent on the back of the neck, but it appeared larger.
I didn't take notice of the beak, so I have no additional info
there. I know Rock Doves (now Pigeons) have significant variability,
but didn't expect this of Band-tails. If anyone can share some
    insight, I would be appreciative.

    Thanks and happy birding,
